Module 1 - Introduction

Welcome to the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement course.

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a vocational assessor. This qualification is designed for learners aged 19 years or older and will support you to gain employment as a vocational assessor, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role.

This is a practical-based qualification intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment, and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (i.e. workshop, classroom or other training environment). Entry onto this qualification will require you to have full competence in the vocational subject area that you will be assessing and you will need access to a cohort of learners, so that you can gather evidence of real assessments.

This qualification includes units covering the principles and practices of assessment, assessing learners' occupational competence in the work place and assessing vocational skills, and knowledge and understanding of education and training.

This qualification is the only Level 3 certificate offered by VTCT in Assessing Vocational Achievement.

On completion of the course you will be awarded VTCT qualification.


National Occupational Standards (NOS)

Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable). This qualification is regulated on the Regulated

Qualifications Framework.

This qualification is approved and supported by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), the sector-owned body for the learning

and skills sector.


Progression

This qualification provides progression opportunities directly into employment as an assessor of occupational competence in the

workplace and vocationally related achievement in non-work environments.

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement also provides progression opportunities towards Level 4 studies for assessors looking to pursue a career in internal verification, including:

• Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

• Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

• Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice


To complete this course, you must:

  • Complete every module in this online platform
  • Attend your tutored training sessions
  • Complete all the assignments
  • Attend your assessments. This will consist of you assessing students, working towards their qualifications. Dates will be planned with your tutor
  • Submit your E-portfolio of work for assessing and internal and external assessment.

All of the above will be explained in depth in subsequent modules.
